Tools for Organization and Efficiency

Intro/Background

  • Web 2.0 has seen innovation abound in the development of new sites and tools designed to save you time.
  • Selecting tools that to increase your producivity can take a little time as you discover which tool work best for your needs, but the dividends are well worth it in the long run.

Making Lists

Ta-da Lists -- Create, update and share your To Do Lists. RSS allows Ta-da to function like a mini project manager. Great for ongoing task lists for a department, packing lists and even your Christmas shopping.

Remember the Milk -- A list maker that integrates with Google calendar, twitter and many mobile devices. Receive your task reminders by email, IM or SMS.  Divided in to Personal, Work and Study sections and by when items are due. Plus you can tag your tasks and lists for better findability.

Communication

Doodle -- Need to schedule a meeting with a group or make a quick poll? Then Doodle is really the way to go! No need to set up an account or register -- just create your poll online and a link will be sent to your email for distribution. Doodle will tally results and let you know the best time for a meeting.

Jott.com -- Call your email from your cell phone and leave a voice to text message for yourself.

Socializr -- Create invitations to events, parties and all types of gatherings using many templates (or be creative and create your own). Socializr is evite gone 2.0 as it both an invite site and a social network site.

Calendars and Schedules

Cozi Central -- Ideal for creating family calendars, but could also be used to create a department calendar. Also incorporates lists and messaging in to the interface.

Google Calendar -- Share your calendar with family, friends, or the entire world by making it public. Great for creating conference schedules and sharing with others.

30 Boxes -- similar to Google Calendar. One of the original 2.0 calendar sites.

Other Sites for Fun and Work

Bubbl.us -- A site that makes brainstorming easy and social.

ProfileLinker -- Too many profiles? Can't keep track of it all? Try ProfileLinker!

Pandora -- still my all time favorite 2.0 site. Listen customized music stations while you work.

PopURLs -- Short on time? Catch the headlines at PopURLs!

Slideshare-- A social software site for sharing PowerPoint and other presentations. Think of it as the YouTube of PowerPoint. Great way to archive and share your own presenations -- or see what others are doing and get ideas.

Weebly -- Need to create a web site in hurry? Weebly provides templates and hosting to make it simple. No need to know code. Just drop and drag your elements to create a site in a flash

Zamzar -- Convert files for free from your own computer or from any site and then send them to yourself in an email.

Web 2.0 Awards by SEOmoz -- In case the links here are not enough, get lots of 2.0 Goodness here!
